Goddess Shri Durga, a supremely powerful deity known as 'Shakti' in Hinduism, is worshipped in various forms representing both benevolence and fierceness.

Goddess Durga emerged from the combined energies of the Gods Brahma (the Creator), Vishnu (the Preserver), and Shiva (the Destroyer), to combat the demon Mahisasura. According to legend, Mahisasura was granted a boon that made him invincible to any man or god. Even Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva failed to subdue him. Thus, a feminine energy was needed to vanquish this demon who wrought havoc in the three realms - Earth, Heaven, and the netherworld.

Goddess Durga was bestowed with various weapons by the Gods, with depictions commonly showing her wielding the spear and trident. She is also often depicted holding the Sudarshan chakra, sword, bow and arrow, along with other weapons.
